In a Networked environment with IP Virtual trunks all systems TLAN’s are connected together either over the
WAN or the LAN.
If a call is made from an IP set on the Left hand system to another IP set on the right hand system then the call
server uses the Signalling gateway on the Signalling server (Either H323 or SIP) to set up the trunk. The
Gateway needs to establish where the destination endpoint is and to do this it requests resolution from the NRS.
When it is aware of the destination endpoint it signals directly to it (Signalling gateway to signalling gateway) to
set the call up. The destination signalling gateway will pass the inbound request to its call server and try to
complete the call.
Assuming all is correct, the call will be set up from IP Set to IP set even though the inter system signalling has
passed via the signalling servers.
